Sort of.
She's put herself in my shoes, which is not quite the same thing as trying to understand how I landed in my new job, but I suppose it is at least an effort.
It's hard to put yourself in another person's shoes without projecting your own motives onto that other person. And that's not really understanding at all.
The up side is that although she clearly doesn't know as much about me as I thought she did after all these years, I now have a better understanding of her motives. Even if they're kind of mean and climber-y.
And I'm guessing there is less hatred being spewed around the Internet on my behalf. That's a load off my mind. It's been a crappy couple of weeks.
